Colourful cushions for summer entertaining CUSHnart

If your home is looking a little bit drab and sad after the colder months of the year, you should consider redecorating your home over the summer. In summer, most people tend to have more guests over for parties, holidays and bar-b-q's, so it is only natural that you would want your home to look good for these occasions. And although it can be difficult to completely redesign your home each season, there are a few things that you can do with your home at the start of the summer that will make a big difference with minimal effort.

    1. Brighten it up

As the weather gets warmer, you will want to find ways to open up your home a bit more, rather than closing it up to keep the warmth in like you may do in winter.  Investing in good lighting for the main rooms in your home will help you to brighten things up so that your home is more inviting for summer. Lampshades and lighting fixtures can be a nice feature that can add a bit of interest to any space, so if you are looking for something functional and fabulous, you should shop around to find the right piece for your space. You should also try to open up any windows by getting curtains and blinds that can be opened at will so that you can let the fresh air in or block out the heat as you need to. Natural lighting always looks better than artificial light, so if you have a few big windows or glass doors in your home, you should try to utilise them as much as possible. Scented candles can also help to add light and create a summery vibe in your home. They won’t give off as much heat as a standard light globe will and you can make your home smell nice too, so they are a great addition to smaller spaces.

  • Go for a theme
  • If you want to mix things up with your decor for summer, you should try to pick a theme first that you will base your decor around. For example, if you live on the coast, you might go for a beachy theme and have a rustic aesthetic with the colours of the ocean incorporated into your home’s design. You can add pieces made of driftwood and images of the sea, and you can incorporate different textures to make the space feel more summery. A nautical theme will never go out of style, and you can add or subtract different pieces throughout the year, depending on the vibe that you are looking to create, so if you want your space to feel refined but also inviting and fun, you should consider styling your home to a certain theme.

  • Add pops of colour
  • You can be more creative in summer when it comes to styling your home, so you should try to incorporate more bright colours where you can in your house during the warmer months. Most designers recommend that you should start with a neutral colour base for most of the room, using colours like whites, blacks, browns, greys and beiges throughout the room. If you need to remove a bunch of junk that doesn’t match your theme, consider using a rubbish removal service to clear out any  household waste. Once you have created a nice space with your neutral colours, try adding pops of brighter colours throughout your house. You can add as much or as little colour as you like, but even adding a few  patterned cushions or a colourful piece of art can really change the overall look and appeal of the room that you are styling. Also, because it is summer, you may want to opt for warmer colours like yellows, oranges, reds and pinks, because they will evoke the sense of warmth in a room, even if you are blasting the fan or air conditioner! And once the season is over, you can just change things up again by adding different coloured pieces that work better during the colder months, so it is easy to redecorate your home each season.

  • Bring outdoors inside
  • If you want your home to have a summery feel without spending tonnes of time or money on something big and extravagant, you should opt for some  more greenery in your home. Add things like flowers and plants inside your home to give it a more summery feel by bringing nature inside to you. In spring and summer, there are a lot more plants around and flowers that are in bloom, so if you want to give your home the feel of one of these seasons, you need to add a bit of greenery to your space. Buying some nice fresh flowers for when people come over is always a nice touch and just adds another level of elegance to your home. You can also get some leaves and cuttings from your garden and make a nice wreath or garland to string up around your house to incorporate a bit of nature into your space. Even a few indoor plants in some colourful pots and  vases can really freshen up your home and make your space feel more lively, so you don’t have to do much to change your space. Also, there is something very nice texturally, about adding flowers and plants in your home, because it can be pleasantly unexpected, so if you’re looking to add something different into your home in summer, go for the green.

  • Create some entertaining areas
  • In the summer, we tend to spend a lot of time entertaining guests in our homes both inside and outside, so you need to make sure that your home is ready for entertaining guests that might pop by. Most homes will have a dining area indoors with a nice big table and a few chairs, but many of us don’t have outdoor areas set up for when guests unexpectedly come over. All you need is a few chairs and a little table so that guests can put their food and drinks down, and then you can add things like a bar-b-q, an umbrella for shade or an outdoor bar if you have a bit of extra space. If you are looking to invest in some new outdoor pieces, stores like  Remarkable Furniture have a range of pieces to suit any space, so that anyone can be prepared to entertain outdoors this summer. So if you plan on having people over this summer, you need to make sure that you redecorate the inside of your home as well as the outside, because you will never know who might come over.
