How are the bags made? Water hyacinth grows prolifically along the Cambodian waterways. The plants are cut and taken from Tonle Sap Lake near Siem Reap, they are left to dry out in the sun over a period of approximately 2 weeks and once dried they are ready to be handwoven into modern basket designs. Rokhak empowers women from marginalised communities by training them in the traditional craft of weaving, and offering them the opportunity to earn an income to support their families, that was previously not available to them.
